The Edwardian Era gained the name 'Belle Epoque', which stands for The Beautiful Era and this partially attributed to the beauty of the jewelry of this time. Spanning the years between the end of France's Second Empire (1852-1870) and the beginning of the First World War, the Belle Époque was an era characterized by optimism, economic prosperity, and technological and scientific progress.

Rings often displayed nature-inspired and garland motifs with large center stones encircled by colored gemstones or small diamonds. The fashion was for rings to be stacked, often with multiple rings worn on each finger. The rings were often designed with an elongated outline, pierced and paved with many diamonds and colored stones that could decorate a large part of the finger.
