Vintage gold sword brooch with diamonds, rubies and pearls 14kt
This brooch reminds us of Emmeline Pankhurst. An extraordinary woman who was one of the leaders of the suffragette movement and joined a much necessary evolution in women rights in the United Kingdom. Emmeline was married to Richard Pankhurst, a lawyer and supporter of the women's suffrage movement. He was the author of the Married Women's Property Acts of 1870 and 1882, which allowed women to keep earnings or property acquired before and after marriage. In 1903 Emmeline Pankhurst and others, frustrated by the lack of progress, decided more direct action was required and founded the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) with the motto 'Deeds not words'.
This lovely sword is here to remind us that we are indeed strong, powerful, and beautiful. We deserve to be here, we deserve to have equal rights, and we deserve to wear this brooch with pride!
